Origin of the BEERNiK BREWING logo

In early January 2020, we traveled to Langkawi Island in Malaysia to celebrate my wife’s 50th birthday.

There, for the first time, I was able to fulfill a childhood wish and see the Southern Cross shining in the southern hemisphere. It is surprisingly small. While gazing at the Southern Cross, I had a clear feeling that something new was about to begin (although perhaps I was merely captivated by the beautiful starry sky of the southern hemisphere).

Then, about two months later, the world would plunge into that tremendous pandemic. Restaurants were forced to suspend operations and without any clear way forward, the desire to find some new business, something outside of a physical store, grew stronger by the day.

One day in late 2021, while somehow getting through the COVID pandemic, I had the thought of starting a brewing business to make the beer that has been most connected to my life.

Many people were taking on the challenge of brewing beer and although I had reached the age of sixty and become quite a bit older, I felt a new determination rising within me, thinking that if I just put in the effort, I might be able to make it work. At my age, taking on this challenge might actually be a good thing, so I tried to keep a positive mindset.

The answer I was searching for, which was right under my nose, was actually the beer that is closest to me and most relevant to my life. Deciding that, I began making various preparations from the following year, 2022.

The feelings I had when I saw the Southern Cross on Langkawi Island in January 2020.
I have decided to combine that Southern Cross with a pentagon modeled after the FooTNiK logo to create the BEERNiK BREWING logo.
I also pour my wish for everyone to fully enjoy and taste our craft beer at FooTNiK into the logo, along with the bubbles of the Southern Cross.

Finally, after all that, I discovered that one of the stars forming the cross of the Southern Cross, δ (Delta) star, has the name Imai! It has the same spelling as my surname, Imai. I was truly surprised and felt a sense that this was meant to be.
